Finch Therapy?
Did you know that Finches are very social birds and have often been found socialising with birds of other species? Did you also know that finch therapy has nothing to do with the bird?
Finch therapy is a soft tissue muscle therapy that focuses on aligning the whole musculoskeletal system in a non-intrusive and passive way. It is a highly recommended treatment for those with chronic pain and can assist with back pain, sciatica, neck and shoulder pain, knee, hip and ankle pain, headaches and arthritis.
Origins of Finch Therapy
Finch therapy was created by Kym Finch, a remedial massage therapist who suffered for many years from her own debilitating pain, pain that had no diagnosis and had no reason to exist. She spent frightful amounts of money to find relief but no treatment was able to bring about a notable change in her condition. Out of sheer determination to find relief, Kym studied remedial massage therapy and specialised in musculoskeletal rehabilitation. From this, she was able to cure her own pain and has now used this knowledge to develop the treatment we know of as Finch Therapy to help others to find relief.
What is the musculoskeletal system?
It includes our bones, muscles, tendons, ligaments and soft tissue that all work together to move us around and support our bodies. When something goes wrong with any of these components, even if it is not able to be seen on scans or x-rays, we start to feel pain. This is why so many have pain that seems to have no solution.
How does Finch Therapy work?
The pain we feel could be caused by some kind of trauma, an accident, a previous injury or even just wear and tear from our daily routine. All movement of the body starts in the brain. It sends out signals to our muscles to compress and move. When something goes wrong, these signals fail to get to certain muscles and they become underactive.
When we feel pain in our necks, however, the affected muscle may be in a totally different part of the body. This is because our entire body is held together by a framework of connective tissue called fascia.
During Finch Therapy, you will have a non-intrusive orthopaedic and movement assessments to identify stiff segments. This pin-points where the primary source of the pain is. Now that we know where the pain is coming from, we use gentle muscle activation techniques to encourage the body to naturally restore proper function. With our professional guidance, your body can restore its proper alignment and pain can be reduced.
